Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ending Explained: Is Yuta planning to kill Yuji?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is drawing to an end with Episode 23, following months of incredible fighting, shocking story turns, and even a few heartbreaking deaths. Despite defeating Mahito, Geto’s presence prevents Yuji from concentrating on opening Gojo’s seal. Unless Yuji can go beyond his limits, the fight to save Gojo won’t get any easier, not even with the aid of more sorcerers and allies. It feels pleasantly peaceful in the conclusion, almost like an extended epilogue meant to set the stage for a third season, after such an intense ride, especially in the last few episodes.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 23 Recap

jujutsu kaisen season 2 ending explained

As the episode begins, Yuki confronts Geto about his intentions in an attempt to delay Larue’s response. Unexpectedly, Geto employs Idle Transfiguration, the natural skill he appears to have gained from previously absorbing Mahito.

Geto discloses that he had pre-selected two categories of non-sorcerers, one for whom he had remotely activated Mahito’s technique: Yuji, who had eaten cursed objects, and Junpei, whose brains were built similarly to those of those who had not. His strategy is for them to go at each other.

Geto casts a barrage of curses as the sorcerers readied themselves for battle. The action then swiftly shifts to individuals watching the news throughout Japan and attempting to determine whether or not what they are hearing is true, as Geto attempts to flee while holding the Prison Realm. The worry of a possible cursed spirit epidemic seems to be shared by many knowledgeable people.

It is determined that the public will be informed by the government that cursed spirits exist, but they will only appear in Tokyo. People who follow the news witness reports of workers who are assaulted by evil spirits and then attacked in their own houses.

A little child trying to scavenge a bento in a convenience store is drawn away by a cursed ghost and on the verge of being devoured but is unexpectedly saved by Yuta Okkotsu and Rika.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: How Does It End?

jujutsu kaisen season 2 ending explained

Yuta claims he doesn’t care if Yuji is one of Gojo’s disciples and vows to murder him when the higher-ups at Jujutsu Headquarters approach him.

Geto is described as being sentenced to death and declared alive in the Jujutsu society documents about the incident. Gojo is banished from Jujutsu society after being found guilty of helping to arrange the event. Yaga receives the death penalty. Yuji’s death sentence is instantly withdrawn from suspension. Yuji’s executioner is Yuta.

Though it wasn’t particularly thrilling, the information presented in the first half of the episode was quite important. The highlights of the episode, in my opinion, were seeing Yuta’s homecoming and the repercussions of the Shibuya Incident in the second half. I’m interested to see how these events will play out in the upcoming season.
