AFCAT 01/2024 Notification: IAF Officer Recruitment & Application Guide

Applications for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 01/2024 and NCC Special Entry are being accepted online by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for commissioned officers in the Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. Courses starting in January 2025 will be offered. Starting on December 1, 2023, all qualified applicants, both male and female, may apply online for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 01/ 2024 via the AFCAT official website, afcat.cdac.in.

Interested parties should thoroughly read the notification before submitting an online application.

Admit Card for AFCAT 2024

You can obtain your admit card on the website https://afcat.cdac.in starting at 1700 hours on August 10th. Additionally, your admit card will be sent to the email address you enrolled with. The candidate must contact the AFCAT Query Cell at C-DAC, Pune, at 020-25503105 or 020-25503106, if they do not receive their admit card in their registered email address or are unable to download it from the website. Methods for Online AFCAT 2024 Applications

Applicants for the Indian Air Force must submit their applications online at https://careerindianairforce.cdac.in or https://afcat.cdac.in. The Aadhaar Card is required to register online.

Below are comprehensive guidelines for completing the online application form:-

  • On the home page, click “CANDIDATE LOGIN” to access AFCAT. Register.
  • Applicants should select “NOT YET REGISTERED? on the following page. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
  • Join Up: The applicant will receive a password in their registered email address upon creation of their log-in ID.
  • Once your registration has been approved, use your system-generated password and registered email address to log in.
  • A new login.
  • “AFCAT,” “NCC SPECIAL ENTRY FOR FLYING BRANCH,” and “METEOROLOGY ENTRY” are the entry types that were chosen.
  • Select “FILLING APPLICATION FORM.” Carefully fill out the application form with all necessary information.
  • Select “SAVE AND CONTINUE” to move on to the next phase.
  • On the online “MAKE PAYMENT” page (available only for AFCAT), click.
  • To check if the payment was successful, click “PAYMENT STATUS.” The successful completion of the payment is indicated by the display of the Registration Number.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2024

The Flying Branch

Candidates must have completed Physics and Math at the 10+2 level with at least 50% of the possible points.

  1. Graduation with a minimum three years degree course in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. 
  2. BE/ B.Tech degree (Four years course) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. 
  3. Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Technical Ground Duty Branch

AE (L)} Aeronautical engineer (electrical)

Candidates must have passed Sections A and B of the Associate Membership examination of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India, or they must have passed the Graduate Membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines. Candidates must also have completed at least four years of college or an integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering or Technology.

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}

Candidates must have passed Sections A and B of the Associate Membership examination of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:- Candidates must have secured at least 50% of the possible points in Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level, as well as a minimum of four years of degree graduation or integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology.

Weapon Systems (WS) Branch Candidates must have completed Physics and Math at the 10+2 level with at least 50% of the possible points.

completion of a minimum of three years of college coursework in any field, with a minimum grade point average of 60% or above. OR

A four-year BE/B Tech degree from an accredited university with at least 60% of the possible points.

Administration & Logistics Passed the section A and B examinations for associate membership in the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or passed the 10+2 and Graduate Degree (minimum three-year degree program) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Accounts Branch. Passed the 10+2 exam and graduated from a recognized university with 60% of the possible points in any of the following streams:

B.Com. Degree (minimum three-year program). The following degrees are available: Bachelor of Business Studies (with a focus on finance), Bachelor of Management Studies (with a finance emphasis), and Bachelor of Business Administration (with a finance specialization).

Education Completed the 10+2 and Post-Graduation programs with 50% grades in any subject, including integrated programs that offered PG (a single degree without the option to leave or enter the field again), and graduated with 60% grades in any subject.

Meteorology  Passed the 10+2 and B Sc exams in Physics and Mathematics with at least 60% of the possible points, or completed a four-year degree program in Engineering or Technology with at least 60% of the possible points in the following streams:

Examination Fee

  • Examination Fee: Rs. 550/- (not applicable for NCC special entry)

Age Limitation

  • Age as of: 01.01.2025
  • Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years born between 02 Jan 2001 to 01 Jan 2005.
  • Ground Duty: 20 to 26 years born between 02 Jan 1999 to 01 Jan 2005
  • (Both dates inclusive)

Procedure for AFCAT Entry Selection 2024

Candidates who receive the minimum qualifying marks in the online AFCAT, as determined by the IAF at their discretion, will be listed for AFCAT entrance. At one of the Air Force Selection Boards, candidates who are deemed successful in the Online AFCAT will get calls. Applicants will be contacted immediately for AFSB testing at one of the AFSB centers if they have submitted for NCC Special Entry.

The AFSB centers are located in Varanasi (4 AFSB), Dehradun (1 AFSB), Mysuru (2 AFSB), Gandhinagar (3 AFSB), and Guwahati (5 AFSB). The only cities available to candidates choosing the flying branch are Dehradun, Mysore, and Varanasi. To generate a call-up letter for the AFSB interview, candidates who have passed the written exam must select the AFSB date and location on their own via the websites https://careerindianairforce.cdac.in or https://afcat.cdac.in.

The Physical Standard Test for AFCAT 2024

Height, Sitting Height, Leg Length, and Thigh Length

Flying Branch will require a minimum height of 162.5 cm. For such aircrew, the following dimensions of leg length, thigh length, and sitting height will be acceptable: –

Height at sitting: 81.5 to 96.0 cm
Length of Leg: 99.0 to 120.0 cm
Maximum Length of Thigh: 64.0 cm
Entry into ground duty branches will require a minimum height of 157.5 cm. The minimal height that is permissible for Gorkhas and people from hilly Uttarakhand and northeastern India would be 5 centimeters less (152.5 cm). The minimum allowable height for candidates from Lakshadweep may be lowered by 2 centimeters (155.5 cm).

Physical Requirements (For Women)

The following are the minimum heights that are appropriate for certain branches:

Branches in flight: 162.5 cm
Additional Branches: 152 cm
Note: For candidates from other branches only, a lesser minimum height of 147 cm would be acceptable if they are from Uttarakhand’s mountainous or northeastern regions. The minimum height required for candidates from Lakshadweep will be 150 cm.

Physical Fitness Test (AFCAT) 2024

To be able to participate in the different tests at AFSB, candidates are encouraged to be physically fit when they report for SSB. Your goal should be to be able to perform 10 pushups, 3 chinups, and 1 mile (1.6 km) in 10 minutes.
