TMB: Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd., formerly known as Nadar Bank Ltd., was founded in 1921. At the 1920 Nadar Mahajana Sangam Anniversary in Tuticorin, there was a discussion about starting a bank with the support of the capable Nadar business community. The proposal was implemented quickly. The bank was formally registered as “The Nadar Bank Ltd.” on May 11, 1921. The Board of Directors was composed of a group of committed men with astute insight and strong moral character, and on November 4, 1921, they chose Shri M.V. Shanmugavel Nadar to be their chairman. Shri T.V. Balagurusamy Nadar, the Nadar Mahajana Sangam’s then-president, officially established the bank on November 11, 1921, at 9 a.m. It was located in the Ana Mavanna Building on South Raja Street in Tuticorin.
