Barpeta Law College at Glance:
Barpeta Law College was established in the year 1972 and it is the only premier legal institution of Barpeta District imparting 3 years, LL.B Degree and 5 Years, B.A. LL.B (Honours) integrated Degree course. Presently, the college is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University and recognized by Bar Council of India with permanent Principal and qualified teaching staff.
Objective of the college:
- To impart higher education in the discipline of Law which is growing tremendously in all spheres for a meaningful future life and to prepare them for several career opportunities in the present competitive society.
- To educate and develop the personality of students to become ideal citizen of the country.
- To develop their natural spirit of dedication, sacrifice, benevolence and patriotism, etc…
- To render free legal aid service to the poor, backward and weaker sections of the society and to creat legal awareness among the people of rural areas.
The College is located in the heart of Barpeta Town near S.P. Office and in front of Officer’s Club Barpeta.
The college has its own campus in a plot of 20 bighas of land having an Assam type building with Principal’s Room, Teachers common room, Administrative block, class rooms, library cum reading room, Common rooms for both Boys and Girls. An auditorium named “Ramcharan Medhi Memorial Hall”, computer laboratory, moot court hall, legal aid cell etc.
The college Library is well equipped with more than 8,000 Books including Periodicals, Law Journals, Law Magazines and Reference Books etc. with reading facility. Every Student can borrow two books for 15 days. It remains open from 9.00 A.M to 4.00 P.M in everyday except holidays.
The college imparts legal Computer Education and for this purpose, there is a separate computer centre with internet facility.
Legal Aid Clinic:
The college has its own Legal Aid Clinic under the supervision of a Senior Faculty member and run by the Final year students in co-operation with the District Legal Service Authority, Barpeta and voluntary Lawyers in order to give Legal Aid to the poor and needy people.
Management and administration:
The College is managed by a Governing Body Constituted vide Ordinance on Permission and Affiliation of Law College, 1998, of Gauhati University.
